Have you ever wondered what it would feel like if you could be free from the chains that have been keeping you tied to the ground, motionless no matter how much you try; to soar high above the clouds, and possibly fly higher then the Heavens themselves.
For 13 year old Itsuki "Ikki" Minami, he does that, and more. His parents died when he was very young. Since his parents were really good friends with Noyamano sister's parents, he lived with them for the rest of his life. It is then he discovers a whole new world, the world of ATs.
Ikki is in his second year of middle school. Everything is going good for him, a good education, a loving family with the Noyamano sisters, leader of the gang: the East Side Guns, and the often fights Ikki gets into. Normally, this wouldn't bug Ikki as much, but when he gets into a fight with a gang called the Skull Saders, a gang that rides Air Trecks or ATs for short. Because of his defeat, he gets very passionate about AT's.
Ikki, then chooses to set up his own AT team. He asks his two best friends, Kazuma "Kazu" Mikura and Onigiri. At first, they were unsure about the whole idea. They finally joined Ikki to form the AT team, but they needed two other riders to make a team.
Ikki, Kazu, and Onigiri were looking for other members. It was then, that they figured out some other gang, who also rode ATs, was controlling the middle school. Enraged, they changed the team, Night Kings (Yaou) lead by Issa Mihotoke (Buccha), a student at the school.
Ikki battles Buccha to a parts war (a battle between AT teams). Since Ikki doesn't have a whole team yet, he is alone against the leader. At first, Buccha plans the perfect win, go through a tunell only he could fit through. But Ikki finds a way to beat Buccha, causing his team to disband for good. Ikki, then asks Buccha if he wanted to join his team, and agrees.
Ikki also meets Akito/Agito Wanjima. A skilled AT rider with a double personality. Agito, the bad half, tries to kill Ikki but Ikki tells him that he was a toad in a well and that he he tried, he could fly. That excited Akito, the good half, and joined Ikki's team. Once they had all five members, they formed the team by getting clothes, stickers, an emblem, even a moto. From then on, they were known as:
Kogarasumaru: Kill 'em dead!
