Now I have been wondering, just who was the Firelord during the time Sozin was a prince and was best friends with Avatar Roku?

I believe Sozin was best friends with Roku, and I don't think they say who was firelord.

Well what was going on during his teenage years and childhood? Was there any kind of global conflict at all? There has to be some, but wasn't the nations basically all at peace? But how can that be, there has to be some conflict? Perhaps minor politic troubles?

Well they say before the war the were in an are of peace. I think they mentioned soemthing liek that in the intro on every episode. I think...

Yeah, it's what Katara says before each episode starts. XDD Sooo, basically, Sozin got power hungry and wanted to end the world's balance.

But surely Sozin wasn't the first person to have such aspirations. I bet you there were others who tried to throw the world out of balance. However they failed. Like minor raiding parties somewhere within the world, not belonging to any one nation. Sozin probably was able to do this because he became Firelord of one of the powerful four nations at the time.
But how about beyond Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchan to other Avatars in an era that wasn't known. There has to be more conflicts in the past. Because if there was an era of peace for that long, that most likely be impossible. Plus Kyoshi is the only other known Avatar to have conflict with the Earth Kingdom.
