Kingdom Hearts Coded Trailer Impressions Keyblades are coming to your phone. by Jeff Haynes
August 2, 2008 - Kingdom Hearts has become a popular franchise for Square Enix for its mix of Disney and Square Enix characters. While it's taken over the PS2 and the GBA, the series is now expanding to include mobile phones as well. At the DKΣ3713 Private party event in Harajuku today, Square showed off a trailer for the game, which will be hitting mobile phones in Japan sometime this winter.
Apparently, Coded takes place after the events of Kingdom Hearts II, and focuses on Jiminy Cricket and his journal. Initially, Jiminy wanted to record the events of Sora's adventures within his journal, but as he goes to write into the book, he discovers that there's an entry that he didn't write, stating, "We must return to free them from their torment." Wondering just how this came about, Jiminy takes the book to King Mickey, who digitized the journal and by extension created a digital Sora.
What was shown was a variety of mini-games and platforming elements, such as collecting honey jars with Winnie the Pooh and battling enemies. Apparently, the game will be a mix of 2D and 3D elements, and will also have some interesting gameplay elements, such as hitting directional buttons to improve your combos. Apparently, you'll also be able to use a Debug feature to further destroy the Heartless.
