Merry Lane is pleasant, full of friendly neighbours and an endless sky full of possibilities. That is, until the new boy came along. Peg Boggs was on her usual Avon Call when she discovered herself in the presence of a boy with long, spindly hands. No -- not hands -- Scissors. At the end of Edward's long arms were hands created out of scissors and pulleys, rigged just like real hands.

The neighbourhood and neighbours are all in a tizzy about the new boy. Peg has been trying to keep him a secret, at least for a little while, until Edward finds himself comfortable.
