Since its announcement, I've had this gut feeling that The Last Airbender is going to suck, majorly. With the recent revealing of the cast, I feel like it bombed even further. I honestly think that when 2010 rolls by, I won't even be remotely interested.

What makes you say that, there have been plenty of people judging McCartney if that is what you are worried about. Pretty soon people are bound to think he shall have what it takes to play Zuko.

I'm not worried about Jesse McCartney, but the entire concept of making a film on this show seems doomed. It's like that new Dragonball movie coming out next year; it's bound to fall flat on its face despite its massive fan base. It's going to be impossible to make The Last Airbender awesome.

Dude... that poll is so misleading. The thread title is "flop" and the poll is like... reversed. I voted for definitely because I assumed that poll was if you thought it was a flop or not. >.>
But I definitely think it WILL flop, because A) It won't have a clear target audience due to the series being over. B) The casting choice has PO'd quite a few people, even though I don't personally care. C) The atmosphere of the show will not easily translate to live action. And D) The fact that Shyamalan could take the series in a bad direction.

Suuuuck it, mother. *snark*
But, yeah, I agree, like, one hundred percent. All of said points are pretty much my points of argument. I also think that by the time that the film comes out, plenty of the avid fans will be disinterested and too old to be ecstatic for a child's film. It'll be impossible to make this film without it being corny.

Shyamalan has said he is "reinventing" himself and there is bound to be previews in the theaters for other shows. Shyamalan is a big time name for this to happen. Also so far episodes that are pretty much obvious to have material in the movie are the first two of season one and the last three. If this does become the next Star Wars among new fans or old. I just hope we do not get a messed up EU like that other franchise did.
Also why are we speculating about 2010, when there has been rumored continuations of the series in 2009? Miniseries (still not confirmed rather it's about Zuko and mommy) and three animated movies still to come. If the rumors are true however.

Note that it's only a rumor. It's a tough fact to swallow, but I doubt that many fans will be loyal by this time next year. You can obviously tell by angered fans that they've already lost their allegiance in the show, and series as a whole, just from Shyamalan's rather bold move. In a sense, even I've lost interest in the show.

What fans are lost and only more to gain. When this film hits the theater. There is a good possiblity that the franchise will gain new fans and those new fans will want to check out the cartoon and anything relating to it. If done well that is, The Happening has sold well as well. Also the only fans that seemed to have disowned the franchise are fangirls, Zutarians, and "aang.aint.white" which isn't really easy to replace with loyal fans and new fans.
P.S. By saying "Aang.Aint.White" it really means he is white because of the word "Aint".

That was so contradicting, like, you have no idea.
These "new fans" will, most likely, be younger children in which the show originally was geared for. And, think about it: two years down the road, these child fans won't have access to the show on television because it won't be on television. The bottom line is that old fans will disown the movie, and the new fans will be caught up in the hype of the live action movie that they'll disown the show. Story of all remakes.

What do you mean it won't be on television. The fact of the matter is, because this is Shyamalan this movie is going to sell. Which would make Nick want more ratings and more money. Vast show reruns of the series on their networks other than just Nicktoons Network. I'm sure Zutarians will find new hope in their ship because this seems more like a reboot and fangirls shall mix with Jesse and Jackson fangirls to cause hell for everyone else. Not looking forward to the Internet there.
You are thinking like this is going to replace the entire series. It's not, if it sells well that would make Nick realize they want more. Which would make them air reruns and possibly ask Mike and Bryan or somebody else to make new series. This could go down either the good road or bad road, only time will tell. Old fans didn't abandon the series or franchise at this point and doubt they would in the future. Zutarians are really the old fan base who are willing to jump to such extremes next to the "Aang.Ait.White" group. Amazing how this shipping war left the entire fandom cut off and in their own groups so to speak isn't it.
Now what I would like to know is, what kind of 8-12 year old is bald? Of course I am talking about Noah Ringer.

How do you see Zutarians as the old fan base? Technically speaking, everyone who's watched Avatar is a part of the old fan base; we were the original viewers. Everyone who checks out the series after the movie is the newer fan base. Make sense? Either way, you can obviously tell by activity in the Avatar fandom that some fans have already forsaken or forgotten the series. Where have you been?

Now I hardly see this movie being anywhere near flop.
It'll just revive an average wage.
