The New York Post put out this cartoon on Wednesday, regarding recent US events. The cartoon obviously regards "Travis", a monkey who went ape on Monday when he assaulted a friend of his owner. Police responded by shooting and killing the monkey on the scene. Upon the cartoon's release, people have connected its caption with President Obama, and civil rights leaders, such as Al Sharpton, were quick to remark. Protesters have already begun to march, claiming to boycott the Post. Many proclaim that the cartoon is an evident mark of racism, but the Post is firmly defending its cartoon. So, do you find the cartoon racist? Article: www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article5766822.ece

Uh... you said new York Post in the beginning, then switched to the Times. Which is it?
Al Sharpton is an idiot, and he always has been, so I don't pay attention to anything he does anymore. I don't really see the racism in this... they're comparing him to a monkey, like everyone did with Bush, so there's equality in their stupidity. The only thing that could remotely qualify as a racial issue is the fact that it was white police officers killing a dark-furred monkey, which is a bit of a stretch.
Civil Rights groups fight for what's right and all, but they usually end up taking things too far and become ridiculous. Essentially, I think actively protesting is a step too far, for anything, and is really more for personal attention than what the cause is.

Urgh, damn. It's New York Post. Sorry, I'm just so used to reading the New York Times. I got my source from Time.
Moving along, I totally agree, everyone's totally taking this out of proportion. If anything, I find that the comic is meshing current events together in a single comic.
