I just got FM+ today and started playing Re:CoM. Here are my thoughts.
Well, I've been playing Re:CoM for about 30 minutes and I already like the GBA version better. Camera issues from KH1 seem to be back in this remake and even though you control the camera with the right analog stick, you can never zoom out far enough to see the whole battle field, which makes fights difficult. Collecting orbs is a lot more challenging with this camera as well. In the GBA version, you could see everything and chasing after the orbs is easy, but since the camera is so zoomed in on Sora, it is next to impossible to see where they go and you end up ignoring the battle completely, in an attempt to collect exp. This often causes you to ignore your HP as well. I've yet to experience any of the new in-battle reaction commands, but you do use the triangle button a lot outside of battle, to break boxes and open doors. However, the ally cards seem to be much more useful than they were in CoM for the GBA. Goofy now tornado spins with just one card, instead of stocking three, allowing a much better range on enemies. So far, Goofy is more useful than Sora's entire deck. Now, another problem is rotating the cards and using the lock-on feature. In RE:CoM, you use the R1 and L1 buttons to rotate the deck and you use the R2 button to lock onto enemies. I'm so used to locking on using the R1 button, I often hit it instead of R2. I think since they brought it to the main console, they should have stuck to the original controls and then placed the rotate buttons on R2 and L2, which would be much easier of the player, IMO. I've haven't been playing for a very long time, but these are just my initial views. I'll be sure to write more when I get further in.
The transition animations from room to room are better than any of the graphics in KH1, but the rest is basically the same. I don't see much difference, but I would assume they are at least a little better.
I just used my first reaction command in battle, which is basically what all of the sleights are now. If you stock (which is done with triangle, btw.) Goofy with 2 attack cards, he targets one enemy and if you are near him, you can hit triangle when prompted to make him sling the heartless up in the air and smash him across the field. I would say the new reaction commands actually are very useful.
Well, I see no point in a sleeping darkness card, since that seems to be their normal behavior in Re:CoM. Basically, the heartless just sit there. Don't even chase after you in the normal room. You walk through a certain point on the field, a heartless appears and you can just walk your way around it and it will disappear if you go far enough. I guess this is a good thing if you are low on health and need to break some barrels for HP balls.
Speaking of barrels, they don't regenerate. The don't simply reappear when you leave the room and re-enter. That sucks. Now collecting Moogle points is going to be hella lame.
Well, Aladdin has an ability that causes him to damage enemies and they give Moogle points as well, so that's good.
Also, may I point out that that the new "map card roulette" card is the bomb! It's the fun of premium bonuses without the crappy premium bonus itself. xD You stop on a map card and it gives you what you land on. Makes getting those moogle shop cards and calm bounties easier. Man, getting that blue 1 at the end would have been so much easier with this in the GBA version.
What you think?
