Katara

What does everyone think about Katara? I know that a lot of people hate her and this I do not understand why. She is only trying to protect Aang from who she loves with her life. Even if that means making a death threat or two. Remember the girl had a hard life, her father left her when she was young.
She knew why he left and was okay with the reason. But that still took emotional damage on her inside and these feelings she didn't knew she had just came out of nowhere and she needed to cry and talk to someone about this. Why not have it be her father?
Everyone likes Zuko, but remember he was a villain in the past and did try to capture Aang who was the world's last hope for peace. Katara has every right to be angry with him and not to mention being betrayed in the crystal catacombs of Old Ba Sing Se. She has to give him a second chance because Aang needs a firebending teacher, but she reserves the right to be this "bitch" to Zuko after all that he has done. I stand by my girl Katara.

I won't deny that Katara has been a major help in the past for the group; she's literally been the glue that's kept them together. However, there are times that I wish I could just whack her in the head. Like, for instance, when Zuko joined the group and tried to prove that he's changed to aid Aang, Katara confronted him in a most enraged manner. To me, at least, she almost seemed demonic. o.o;; *ahem* I mean, we all know that what Zuko did under Ba Sing Se was utterly terrible, and I can totally see where Katara was coming from, but what Zuko did was human nature; he was tempted by Azula, who promised that their father would reward him justly for his actions. Everyone's tempted to do something wrong, and I'm sure Katara's been tempted a handful of times herself. Being the "compassionate" person she is, she should have understood him, right?
But, otherwise, Katara can be a pretty good ally to have, especially when you're the Avatar. XDD Her bending skills are impressive, and she has been known to come through for her friends. My feelings for Katara are that of a love/hate sort of thing. XDDD

I've never hated Katara and I don't know anyone who has. She is kind of oblivious to Aang's feelings for her though, which makes her a little stupid. xDD

After The Southern Raiders, Katara has earned a permeate spot in my top three favorite characters. I just wish she killed that guy, he has some weak moments, but whatever. It is Nick after all. -_- Also after that episode. My hatred of Zuko just dropped some more. Damn hypocrite.

Well, to be honest I've loved Katara since the beginning. She was pretty mean to Zuko, but you know, if she doesn't do it, who does? ;3

I've always found her a little annoying. There's not much about her that makes her really stand out as her own character. :\

So I knew Iroh was trying to find Zuko a girlfriend. I just read Chapter 4 in the book and he was thinking about Katara and Zuko. But, I wonder if he will still be happy if he knew Mai was hi girlfriend.

Eh, I love Katara. But that's just me.
I agree though, she's a very stereotypical female protagonist. While the actress in The Ember Island Players over did her just a bit, that's pretty much all Katara does - she's the emotional element to the gAang; without her, you'd just have a bunch of people who think of themselves.
Not that Katara isn't without her own selfishness - but, for the most part, her emotions (which she bases her decisions on) are for the good of the group.
I agree that she's not a very dynamic character - not like Toph, or Azula. She's strong in her own way, however, and I won't deny that bending/fighting wise, she's a formidable opponent or ally. She is very predictable though, out of fight situations.
All that said, she's one of my favorite female characters in the show.
