After the War (Post WWII Japan RPG)

Nearly a decade had passed since the end of World War II and since the Americans helped rebuild Japan. So far, they have been doing well on their own, making peace with other countries, and begining to show signs of an influentual country to the world in art and technology. However, there are those who still suffer from the scars of war (Oh, and did I mention now that this is an alternate universe where superpowered beings and even youkai live as well? This rpg has a bit of influence of Ozamu Tezuka in it. Just wanna make things interesting ^^).

Rules:

No Mary Sues (even if you're a youkai or whatever, give your characters some flaws)
No God-moding
The maximum number of characters is three

Okay, maybe just to give you a bit of an idea, I'll put in my characters:

Name: R.E.F.U. (Radiation Enhanced Fighting Unit)
Age: 6 months old (yet has the appearance of a 17 year old)
Gender: male
Occupation: Superhuman

History: Was developed in a secret government lab to use as a weapon of defense. Using the same radiation that was used in the Hiroshima bombings, they altered his DNA to be faster, stronger, more agile than the normal human. Through torturful tests however, one of the doctors got him out of the lab and isnow in hiding.
Personality: innocent, kid-like, curious, sometimes a bit hyperactive, tends to get in trouble a lot
Other info: can run at fast speeds, is strong enough to punch a whole in the earth, hair sometime glows flourescently, likes reading Astro Boy manga, plays games like any normal little kid would.

Name: Shouei Sensei (Dr. Shouei)
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Occupation: Human, former weapon's technitian and geneticist
Appearance: Salt& Pepper hair, lightbrown eyes, wire-framed glasses, dresses consevatively
History: Once served in WWII to design weapons for the Japanese army. After losing his wife and son in a bomb raid, he saught not to makes weapons out of war offense, but for defense. Seeing R.E.F.U.'s cruel treatment in the secret government lab however, made him abandon making weapons all together and set set R.E.F.U. free.
Personality: grumpy a lot of times, analitical, has moral standards, dad-figure, can get a bit impatient at times, likes his privacy
Other info: Is a bit dyslexic (can't read maps), at times would sit at his desk and draw models like Leonardo de Vinci, would hide behind a newspaper just to be ignored.

History: Was born in Tokyo, where his parents discovered his unusual abilities at a young age. They often encouraged him to join the war effort, using his unique properties, but he refused. He ran away from home at age 16 and the war was over 3 years later. He feels great shame for his abandonment.
Personality: Kind, well-spirited, yet troubled by his abilities at times.
Other info: He has the power to create controlled bursts of energy for fighting and healing.

Well, as you can see, the RP section is a little thin right now, so we need as many active RPs as possible and this sounds promising so there you go! xDD

Okay then, well, I'm getting a bit sleepy right now, but I think I'll start this and when I come back on, we'll see where this goes.

The end of WWII has passed. Many of Japan's citizens have tried to restart their lives and continue with peace. One man, however, couldn't get any peace; he had to look after his friend whom he helped escape from a secret government lab.

"R.E.F.U., come over here; we don't have time to look at manga." Shouei called out to the green haired boy over by the manga stand in the local market.

"But its Astro Boy and I wanna know what happens to him. Can we buy it?"

"Another time, now come." Shouei dragged R.E.F.U. by the ear.

Kaido smiled at the two men standing by the comic stand, who appeared as though they were father and son in a classic bickering match, which maintained a harmless and cute quality. "I wish my Dad and I got along like that," He thought to himself, developing a frown, "But that can never happen." Kaido lowered his head in sadness, thinking about the last conversation he had with his father; screaming words of hatred and resentment, all because he didn't agree with what his parents wanted for his life. Kaido always felt burdened by his powers and didn't want a life full of war. The green haired boy with the older man appeared to be the same age Kaido was when he ran away from home. "I hope he doesn't make the same mistake I did by leaving," He continued solemnly in though, returning to his grocery shopping.

"Arigato gozaimasu" Shouei said to the woman selling fresh produce after buying. He was sure glad they were out of war and were finally independent after U.S. invasion; he was sick of living off of rice rations and (when the Americans were occupying) government cheese.

OOC: Sorry, just HAD to make a government cheese joke there.

R.E.F.U. only sulked behind the doctor, wishing he had that new copy of Astro Boy.

Suddenly, Shouei noticed two men in three-pieced suits and dark shades not far.

"R.E.F.U., we need to leave."

"But--"

"NOW!" Shouei grabbed R.E.F.U.'s hand and ran with him being pulled along.

[Beebs]

As he walked along the stone-tiled sidewalk, Kaido noticed three uniformed men. He quickly froze where he stood, sweat beginning to slowly run down his forehead. "Oh no," He nervously thought to himself, "Maybe the military really DID see me when I last used my powers!" A few months ago Kaido used his energy abilities on a wounded man just outside of Kyoto. he had seen a few soldiers beforehand and later at a hotel a few there gave him a funny look. He knew it was possible that even his parents had tipped the government off. He hated to think about it, but he knew it wasn't safe. He shook off his anxiety and quickly bolted out of sight.

The middle aged man and the young experiment escapee ran far off from the market area and stopped to catch their breath. Before R.E.F.U. could ask why they were running, he looked up and could see the ruins of a damaged building.

"Whats that?" R.E.F.U. said pointing up to the ruins.

"That use to be an industrial promotion center and it was one of the few buildings to remain in the epicenter after Pikadon (the atom bomb)." Shouei said in a melancholy voice.

"You mean Pikadon destroyed EVERYTHING?!"

"Not everything, but what was left after bombing was rubble, ash, and many people who were either taken instantly by the explosion or suffered the effects afterwords. People are still dying even today. War is an ugly thing..."

"Why am I doing this?" Kaido thought to himself, peering around the corner of a wall, "Why am I following them?" Kaido cautiously observed the two males standing at the ruins of the dome, being careful not to be seen. He really wasn't sure why he decided to follow them from the market. Earlier, during his hiding from the suited men at the market, he saw the two fleeing the seen in a similar fashion. He had no way of knowing it, but he felt as though he had more in common with these two than he thought.

As R.E.F.U. was eyeing the ruins, he saw a young man with light strawberry chocolate hair watching them. Then, with super speed, he ran over to him.

"Hi." he said with an innocent smile.

The old man ran over to him and tugged his ear. "WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT USING YOUR POWERS IN PUBLIC!"

[Beebs]

Kaido's eyes widened and his jaw dropped a little, then he spoke, "Wow...you're so fast. That was amazing! Oh, um...sorry I was spying on you..." He bowed his head to apologize, looking at the older of the two when raising it up again. "I'm Kaido Mashida," He said, extending his hand to greet them, "I just well...saw you at the market and....followed you here."

Shouei sighed as he realized what he said outloud when the twenty year old spoke. "I guessing you want a reward now, huh?" he said grumpily.

[Beebs]

"Reward? What do you mean?" Kaido curiously asked, cocking his head to the side, unaware of what Shouei meant, "I was trying to hide from those men in suits and saw you seemed to be doing the same..."

Name: Dawn Nomura
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Occupation: Scientific Intern
Appearance: She has narrow blue eyes that are like two sapphires. Her silky, straight, aquamarine hair is medium-length and is worn in a precise style. She is slender and has a feminine build. Her wardrobe is utilitarian, and is mostly yellow.
History: Dawn was born in Japan, with parents both involved in the military. She always planned on have a career in scientific military research, but has since questioned whether or not it is the right life choice.
Other info: Quick witted, Dawn appears stern, but, in reality, she can be socially friendly.

"Reward? What do you mean?" Kaido curiously asked, cocking his head to the side, unaware of what Shouei meant, "I was trying to hide from those men in suits and saw you seemed to be doing the same..."

Shouei sighed. "It doesn't matter now. It seems were all trying to escape from the past now. Come on, R.E.F.U."

"Wait," R.E.F.U. tuned to Kaido, "You have special powers too, huh?"

[Beebs]

"Well, yeah, I think so...if you'd call them that," Kaido said, frowning, unsure if a demonstration would be an unwise choice or not. He shook off his feelings of doubt, thinking, for some reason, he could be safe with these people. He bit his lower lip and darted his eyes left and right, to make sure no outsiders were watching. He extended his arms in front of him, keeping his palms together as if he were about to clasp something with his hands. He squinted his eyes shut and to began to focus on the space between his hands. Slowly, but surely, a small, white light began to form in the center of Kaido's hands. He strained to make it grow in mass, sweat rolling down his forehead as he did so. He let out a gasp as the mass became the size of a softball. He soon slammed his hands together, causing the energy to disappear.

"Ooh, pretty sparkles." R.E.F.U. said watching in awe like a little kid looking at the lights of a Christmas Tree.

Shouei only grumbled. "Well, it wasnice meeting you, but we better get going."

[Beebs]

"Wait," Kaido interjected, carefully thinking about what to say, "Could I...come with you? I don't really have a home...and it seems like we share similar secrets, right?"

R.E.F.U. smiled at the opportunity. "Can we take him with us, Sensei?! Can we?! PLEASE?!"

Shouei groaned. 'Why do I always get pulled into these things?' he thught to himself. "I suppose..."

"YATTA!" R.E.F.U. cheered and hugged the grumpy old man.

[Beebs]

Kaido gave a big grin and replied, "Thank you so much. And don't think I'm just going to be tagging along, I want to help you in your journey anyway I can. No free-rides for me!" He blushed and rubbed the back of his head, and though, "Maybe I'm a little to excited..."

"The whole thing?" Dawn curiously asked her supervisor, looking down a a piece of poster board that lay before her, "But why?"

"It will build your memory," the strict woman replied, "You should already know the Periodic Table backwards and forwards, so translating it from your mind onto this poster should be an easy task, no?"

Dawn scratched the back of her head and answered, "Well, I guess-"

"Very good then, I'll leave you to it," the supervisor said as she turned to leave the small office supply room. She walked out through the door, leaving Dawn alone to complete her assignment.

"This is so useless," Dawn thought to herself, "I thought I was going to be doing much bigger things than this..."
