Where I am currently living, in the middle of a dirt hole known as the major desert. There is a lunar eclipse and around seven o'clock tonight it is said that the moon is going to turn a blood red color for 51 minutes. Now it is something like this that makes me think about (and sometimes worry) about what the Mayans believed. This would have mostly likely been considered an Omen. But hey, we are reaching for a new date for people to be scared of. Sort of like a new Y2K, December 21st, 2012.
Some people believe this is the date Christ shall return for Judgment Day. Others believe that it will be the end of the world (or human life) as we know it. One thing that is certain is that there is an asteroid heading for us around this year, and if it misses us. It will most likely be back around 2036 and hit us wiping all of us out. I believe this is something that Nostradamus predicted, even though the Lost Scrolls were probably flawed, because he predicted things up to the year 3000. Either way, be prepared just in case, have fun with life before you lose it someday.
