The Word Challenge

Alright, in this unique roleplay, a challenge will be set up for each poster. But first, you may be asking yourself 'Why is this in the Discussion Board?' Well, to answer, since this is more of a game, rather than an RP, this seemed like a more appropriate place for it than any of the other boards. This can double as an exercise to keep your writing at the top of its game; think of it as improve for Roleplayers.

Alright, so the challenge: in each post you make you must incorporate a series of words throughout it. It's really pretty simple, so say you're given the words "eternity, second, grow, duel, and passion," how would you use them? Write your post as your normally would, adding these words in whenever they may be appropriate, as long as they are fluid. Example:

John London paced rapidly throughout the small classroom. It seemed as though an eternity had passed since he arrived to Room 409, promptly on time, to compete in a duel of words with Chet Springer. His passion for grammar was unparalleled by any other student at Fort Ivy Elementary School, so he was quite confident he would succeed in the Preliminary Spelling Bee. His anticipation continued to grow as the second hand ticked away on the large clocking hanging above the blackboard. Finally his teacher, Mrs. Blackberry, arrived with young Chet at her side and John developed a large grin on his face, ready to dominate the young boy with his wit.

See? Easy, right? Well, how do these words get chosen? Well, at the end of this post I will provide a list of 5 words for he next person to use in their post. When they successfully use them, they'll list any 5 (reasonable) words they wish and the cycle continues from there.

The setting: Grape Grove Private School, with dorms. It may be cliched, and we may change it down the line, but for now, this is the RPs setting. You can play as any student or teacher you create, using the following character sheet, and you will simply create daily aspects of each character's lives and let your imaginations run wild as the years presses on.

Also, I can't stress this enough, but your posts need to make sense!! Make sure when using the 5 designated words that they actually go with the context and are not just randomly placed. Other than that, have fun!

Bio: Serious and determined, his family consists of teachers, professors and scholars. Unwillingly, Aaron intends to keep the family tradition going to please his parents. His grades are exceptional, and he is a brilliant writer.


As the morning sun flooded into his room, Aaron was relaxing as he sat upon his bed. He sighed and gave the window his full attention while he watched the land awake from its slumber. It was a gorgeous Sunday morning, and the pleasant atmosphere brought back memories of many years ago. The young man recalled his hometown, a small community nestled near a vast forest, and he called to mind all of the children that would play in the streets, regardless of the weather. He remembered his mother; with a warm, smiling face, she would always clean the house hastily on a daily basis, as if someone was to arrive any minute. His father, a stern man, would always sit either at the table or on the couch, and he would constantly read for hours at time.

It had been three months since he had seen either parent, and his vivid memories of the past were all that lingered now. Looking over his shoulder, Aaron noticed that the dorm was empty, save for him and the furniture, and he longed to be with others to pass the time away. Without any classes to attend, the teenager quickly dressed himself and headed to the cafeteria.

Bio: A smart, yet soft spoken girl, Naomi seemed to fit right in at Grape Grove, quickly finding a healthy rhythm after she began to attend. In the second semester of 9th grade, however, she learned that he mother had died while she was away and thoughts of her loss often plagued her. Her grades began to slip and her personality seemed to shift altogether. She now only finds comfort when she spends time with her friend Aaron.

Curiosity filled Naomi's mind as she stared at the box that was shipped to she and her roommate's quarters. The package was not addressed to her, but she couldn't help but enjoy the thought of what could be inside. "I need to get my mind of this," she thought to herself, trying hard not to stare at it, "If I keep thinking about it, I might open it...damn, I'm way to nosy for my own good."

She pondered about the day's schedule, realizing she had an afternoon study session with Mr. Penber due to her falling grade's in his class. She thought about it for a moment and soon decided to skip it. "It's useless, I don't need extra study time," she convinced herself, "I think I'll go see Aaron instead."
