I set up a wordpress blog hoping to catch someone via Google, and Tonya herself posted a comment. Link: avatarfanssos.wordpress.com/2008/04/12/whered-it-go/She says that she's sent the data, but BD hasn't responded. At least we know that the problem's not on the sending end. As far as I know, BB, PHPBB was the forum's original software. Tonya then switched to SMF, a hybrid between Proboards software and PHPBB. It offers extremely high quality and security. PHPBB is completely compatible with SMF. |

PHPBB is completely compatible with SMF. Tonya posted exactly the same thing here already. Did you read the thread? SMF is not made by either the Proboards or phpBB team. It may combine features, but it's certainly not a hybrid of the two. You can get converters from the sites to transfer data over to a different forum host, but the programs themselves aren't made compatible. BD made it apparent she has limited hosting knowledge, so i can't imagine why she'd try her hand at converting a forum, especially by herself, unless it was a mistake, which is the concern I was expressing. |

She was just having some trouble with the script installation.
I've got SMF installed now. I'm just waiting for her to send me the data file back (I deleted my copy after I sent it to her because (a) I didn't think I'd need it anymore, and (b) it's a huge file). Once I get the data file back, I just need a few moments to download the file and import it!

Um, yeah... you e-mailed me once and told me that you would be available on aim, but I never saw you... I tried to get my friends to help me but they didn't know how to handle a .sql file upload and decompression or whatever... I had told everyone from the beginning that I didn't know how to do ANY programming, so I don't understand why no one got back to me other than Tonya, who I thank profusely. I never heard back from you since I e-mailed you last BB. Maybe you have my e-mail wrong or something, cause the last email I received from you was in March.... -_- Anyways, Tonya is a God-send and helping with getting the site up and working thrugh my dreamhost account. And no one else was jumping at the bit to take over the site, so, I am trying the best I can here...  |

Hey, it's BD...
Just to let you guys know, I really want to get this site back on its feet. I feel like I am letting everyone down and dishonoring Tonya by not upholding my part of regenerating this site.
I am working 7 days a week now and trying to support others at 24 now(yes, I turned 24 on April 10th) is just very stressful and hard....
I was never really contacted much by anyone, and I know some who did have my e-mail. I would understand if you did not know how to help me out, but a simple acknowledgment would have been nice. Just an e-mail to ask how things were going. I really was trying... -_-
I'm feeling really depressed and don't really know what I'm talking about... so I will just stop talking
Anyways, things should be back to the way you remember them shortly... I hope...
And Tonya... again, thank you so much for everything. I don't know what I would do without you and I am shamefully sorry that I wasn't able to handle this...

If you never saw me in AIM, that's your problem. I'm in AIM every single day and anyone who IMs me will confirm that. The last time we spoke after you initially started emailing me, I asked you what you needed me to do and you didn't respond. I emailed you again 2 weeks later, but you still never responded. I used the exact same email that you emailed me from. I offered on numerous occasions to help you set it up; that's what you were making me co-admin in the first place, isn't it? I was willing, but you never responded to any of my emails, so all I can say is either your email is messed up or you were ignoring them.

I wasn't accusing you BB. I just stated that I only received one or two e-mails from you and never heard anything after that. The e-mail cannot possibly be broken b/c I got the messages from Tonya.
Don't be nasty please. I am not trying to blame anyone other than myself, and I believe I stated that.
I just want the site to be running again so it can be lifted from my conscience.

I can verify that he's in AIM everyday, so I speak to testify for him. I realize that life may be difficult due to professions and such, but if you were truly bent on getting AF back up, you would have set aside five, maybe ten minutes to email BB back at least once to check in and such. A lot of people have been waiting for you to update us.

Besides, no one else was saying they wanted to take over the site. If that were the case then the site would have just died. I think taking the site was better, and I won't reply anymore if I am only going to be accused and ganged up on by administrators.
I don't think how you're treating me is very respectable or acceptable. Please refrain from the finger-pointing. It was a two-way street, and I am not denying that I could have done more.

Gosh y'all. Be nice. It's really hard to be even as active as I am with all I have going on. BD has more on her plate and, for heaven's sake, she's trying. Fighting's not gonna fix anything.

You're right, I don't know you personally, so I can't make any analysis whatsoever. But, I know one thing, and I'll be as hostile-free as possible when I say this: you don't have to do this. From what you've explained, you have it rather rough at the moment, and it's difficult to restore something so demanded by others. You shouldn't have to carry this huge burden.
You're not alone. If you're honestly having a hard time, ask for some help. I'm certain that some people would be very willing and eager to help. I mean, everyone on AF was exceedingly friendly, and the sense of community was strong. I was a member on AF for over year, and I know plenty of people would have the talent to aid you. Honestly, if no one's willing to help you and exemplify the bond that AF clearly showed, why go through all that trouble?

I was here all along, waiting for you to tell me what to do...you're acting like everyone just abandoned you, which isn't the case. No one knew what the heck was going on and you could've reached out to anyone for help. You knew where to find most of them... I'll admit it, I'm a little ticked off at the moment, because you were essentially calling me a liar, saying I never emailed you back and that was never in AIM. Like I've pointed out, I'm in AIM all the time, along with MSN/WLM. I was always willing, and if you had the time to attempt setting it up on your own, why didn't you take 2 minutes to just email me? |

Water under the bridge, please? I hate seeing people argue, especially over something that can't be changed. You're not really making a good scene for yourself, BB. As an administrator, you should really understand the no flaming/be nice rule better than the rest of us, right?
I'm not trying to be mean or condescending, but arguing is not going to get anything done. Everybody'd like to see AF back up. We know that. BD already admitted that it was a two way street, that she was at fault, too, so continuing this is, quite bluntly, childish. So can we please move on to trying to work together?

Just an update... everything is going well so far. The data file is so huge that I can't upload it all at once. So, I've been importing the data a little at a time. I just have the posts and the PM message data to do now.
Right now, I've installed SMF. But, if I leave it as that, someone will have to help update the script as it needs it. I could, once everything is up convert it to PHPBB. Dreamhost has a hand "one-click installation" service that will make keeping the script up-to-date a breeze (all zutara21would need to do is log into her control panel and press a button). Any one have any preferences? SMF is safer, but PHPBB is a little more user friendly. Converting will be a little extra work for me, but script upgrades in the future would be much easier.
