Taken from: TV Shows on DVD and Avatar Spirit: The kids return to the Fire Nation and prepare for their final confrontation with Firelord Ozai, but they discover that the Firelord has plans of his own: he has ordained himself Phoenix Lord and appointed Princess Azula as the next Firelord. In the spectacular 4-part finale of Avatar Book 3: Fire, Aang fulfills his destiny as Avatar and confronts the Firelord in the greatest battle of the series. Phoenix Lord? Wow, this really opened a whole series of speculation. XDDD Check out the AWESOME cover, too. www.tvshowsondvd.net/graphics/news3/Avatar-Bk3Vol4.jpg

Not convinced I am. Perhaps debates this sparked back on AvatarSpirit. Either way, believe not until I see it for myself. Yes.

This site was actually the first to reveal Aang's new appearance, and their information about the first DVD release of the third season was entirely accurate. You don't have to believe it, but it's true.

XDDD It is awesome. Wow, Azula is the Firelord. I always knew that this would happen, but I'd imagined that Ozai would be dead or had stepped down. Does anyone have any speculation about the Phoenix Lord? Any thoughts on that shindig? XDD

Maybe it's the symbolism. Out of the flames of war, a new world order has been born, much like the phoenix's life is kindled by its own funeral pyre.

And what exactly does that symbolize? xDD This is some interesting information...I can't imagine what the Phoenix Lord could be...I would lead towards a pope-like position, but I don't think Avatar would go there. xD

XDDD Maybe Ozai established a new position even higher than the Firelord. Perhaps, instead of monarchy, it's become a dictatorship. Or, maybe it's a special position that the Firelord takes only during the time of Sozin's Comet's arrival, a sacred Fire Nation tradition.

I'm gonna guess that it was Azula's idea. I could totally see her fawning over her father saying things like, "You deserve to be so much more than Fire Lord" and crap like that, feeding his ego to the point that he begins to believe it and she ends up in power. While I don't believe that Azula could ever really completely puppeteer her father, I do think that he sees her as a little him and would allow her greater access to his person than the normal noble (which sounded totally wrong...^.^). Ozai's smart, but I think he's been pushed over the edge just a bit and insanity based in narcissism can be carefully manipulated.

Wow, a strong point you have there, brynna. He's been, literally, consumed by his will to kill the Avatar, and I think that now the comet's coming, he's becoming cocky in himself. He's blind, in a sense, and I think that's a fault he'll never admit to anyone.

...
The first thing I thought was (Although I like Brynna's idea) that Ozai just comes up with a title for his "ruler of the world" position as opposed to "ruler of just the firenation" So technically, he would rule it all, but under him there would be a couple people keeping closer more detailed watch on whatever particular kingdom/nation they're appointed to.
... Something like that. I mean, one man can't do it all.

Oooooooh...I like that one. Very political and smart. Mine's just based o the way I've got him in my fic. (:
The whole thing is really quite interesting. Aang's goal has been to defeat the Fire Lord.
Will it shift to include Ozai? Who will Zuko face in the end? Hohummm...
