A few months ago, I had read several articles featuring Mike and Bryan speaking of how they have been greatly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki, the acclaimed Japanese animation visual genius, and many of his films, especially Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and even a reference from My Neighbor Totoro. To me, Princess Mononoke stands as one of the greatest anime films of all time. Upon I watching it recently, I totally saw scenes from Avatar that mirrored the film. Some include: - In Princess Mononoke, Prince Ashitaka is banished from his tribe because a rogue demon had attacked him and infected his body. As a result, he has to cut his ponytail, thus ridding his honor. With Zuko, he also removes of his ponytail to prove that his betrayal to the Fire Nation is evident.
- There's a scene when the Spirit of the Forest turns into a Night Crawler; it happens to greatly resemble the spiritual being Aang turns into with the help of the Ocean Spirit in the Season One Finale.
- The famous catbus from My Neighbor Totoro was a basis for Appa.
Any thoughts?

It showing that Bryan and Mike used plenty of scenes and based some of their characters on Hayao Miyazaki. Like, I think the point that I'm arguing is that you can base stuff from other series and adapt it into your own, but when the reference is painfully obvious, to me at least, it seems almost as if you mooched it.

Those are just hands, I am sure Hayao Miyazaki wasn't the first person to do something similar.
Hey is Hayao Miyazaki a feminist? Because I heard from /co/ that he will tell you feminist, but they say he's a pedophile because isn't his movies like 95% about the little girl? xD

No, not really. A lot of his movies also involve guys as the main character. People from /co/ are idiots.
And dude, those weren't just hands, they were the exact shot, poses and everything. Compare, yo.

I agree with Lia, once again. Our minds meld through eternity, memories of lightwaves. xDDD But, uh-- anyhoo, it's not difficult to see how ATLA took great inspiration from anime, specifically those mentioned in the thread. After watching Princess Mononoke I noticed all of the things Lia mentioned, not to mention how the design of Ko in ATLA greatly reminded me of the Forrest Spirit in PM.
